It is obvious where this idea came from, they are copying the British model and, like the British model, it will fail miserably, but more so in the USA where lawyers are more aggressive (or should I say have more guts!) and will use poor interpreting as a loophole to get their clients off everything from a minor traffic violation to serial killing! I write as someone who has been a court interpreter on both sides of the Atlantic.
