PLD members Marsel de Souza and Naomi Sutcliffe de Moraes presented a session at the latest ATA Conference: “Contract terminology and concepts (English to/from Portuguese)”. They’ve kindly shared their slides with all of us.
Abstract:
Working through original contract excerpts (in both directions), the speakers will point out and discuss difficult terminology and concepts in contract law and how to translate both common and difficult terms. Brazilian, U.S., and British terminology will be covered.
Speakers:
Marsel de Souza is a full-time interpreter and translator based in Brasilia, Brazil. Marsel has a bachelor’s degree in EN/PT Translation (University of Brasilia) and a certificate in Advanced French Studies from Alliance Française. He is ATA‑certified (EN > PT). Marsel works primarily with the diplomatic and international organization community in Brasilia, but his interpreting and translation assignments have also taken him to various parts of Brazil and to Angola, France, Guinea-Bissau, the UK, and the US.
Naomi Sutcliffe de Moraes has a PhD in linguistics (University of São Paulo), a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (University of California, Los Angeles), a LLB (University of London), and a master’s degree in physics (University of California, Los Angeles). She has been a Portuguese>English translator for 14 years and is a former ATA board member.
