In the upcoming weeks, we’ll be posting some more information about PLD members who shared their knowledge with attendees at the ATA 56th Annual Conference this year. PLD Assistant Administrator Érika Lessa has shared the slides she used for her session: “Are You an Engaged Pivot?”
Abstract:
Should interpreters work differently depending on the role they play at a conference? After being trained in a multi-language environment and having worked with other pivot interpreters, the speaker discussed a few techniques every interpreter should keep in mind while being the second source of a speech.

About the Speaker:
Érika Lessa is a conference interpreter and translator. She has worked in different sectors of the industry, including the humanities, marketing, software, and game localization. As an interpreter, she has worked at international events such as Rio+20 (United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development) and a visit from Bill Clinton to her hometown of Belém, Brazil. She currently lives in Toronto, where she is completing a master’s degree in conference interpreting at York University.
