What you’re doing these days: I manage a business in Brazil. I have just started doing interpreting work and have been networking in pursuit of translation jobs.
Something you’re proud of: Coming to New York City to pursue a career in the arts is a definite feather in the cap.
A bit of your background: I am originally from Brazil and have a bachelor’s degree in Law. I graduated from the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting in New York City and have earned my brown belt in Brazilian jiujitsu from Marcelo Garcia (NYC). I am currently finishing the Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
How long have you been with ATA and PLD? I joined both three months ago.
What did ATA membership and/or the PLD bring to you? I’ve gained a lot of visibility and have been contacted by numerous language agencies and a few direct clients.
Current project (or last/future interesting project/activities): I’m progressing towards improving my interpreting and translating skills and gaining more experience in the field.
A major challenge(s) in your career: Right now, getting consistent interpreting and translation work is posing quite a challenge.
Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they? Jiujitsu, surfing, reading, and traveling are on my list of things I enjoy in my free time.
What is your favorite book in Portuguese-language literature? Água Viva by Clarice Lispector and Dom Casmurro by Machado de Assis.
What books are currently on your reading list? O Livro do Desassossego by Fernando Pessoa, Don Quijote by Cervantes, Os Maias by Eça de Queiroz, Shakespeare’s plays, and A Jangada de Pedra by José Saramago.
