Mery was born and raised in the Netherlands, and moved to the United States in 1993. She initially worked as a math and physics instructor in the Netherlands, Tanzania, and the U.S., and later as a physics lecturer at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
In 2003, Mery cofounded the school for Dutch Language and Culture ‘De Petteflet’ in Colorado and got involved in language education. She served on its board of directors for three years and later as editor of the school newspaper. Mery found that she loved combining her knowledge of science and technology with languages, and made the change to translation and software localization.
Mery holds degrees in Translation, Physics, and Education, and is ATA certified from English into Dutch. She also served on the board of her local ATA chapter (Colorado Translators Association) from 2013-2020, first as treasurer and later as president.
