Assistant Administrator: Paul B. Gallagher

Paul B. Gallagher has over 40 years’ experience translating Russian technical and legal documents into English for a variety of clients. His areas of special expertise include petroleum and geology, medicine and pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and law.

Mr. Gallagher has been an active, certified (formerly “accredited”) member of the American Translators Association since ATA27 in Cleveland in 1986, and has only missed a half-dozen ATA conferences since then. He served four years as the Administrator of the Korean Language Division before being elected as Assistant Administrator of the Science and Technology Division. He has presented at six ATA conferences. His favorite websites include the Online Etymology Dictionary and Wiktionary.

Mr. Gallagher’s parents met in a German class at NYU and enrolled him in a French class from third grade through the end of high school, plus three years in college. His undergraduate majors were Russian and Linguistics, and he completed all but his dissertation toward a PhD in Linguistics at Ohio State University before switching to translation full time in 1985. As an expat New Yorker, he has been a Yankee fan since October 1964.
