November 2017

by Science & Technology Division

Congratulations to S&TD member Bruce Popp! Bruce was awarded the 2017 S. Edmund Berger Prize for his translation of The Three-Body Problem and the Equations of Dynamics: Poincaré’s Foundational Work on Dynamical Systems Theory, published by Springer.

Thank you to everyone who attended our division events during ATA58! The division held a reception, its Annual Meeting, and a networking dinner during the conference. Around 30 members attended our Annual Meeting, which included our customary round of member introductions and several announcements:

  • We are looking for one or two volunteers to manage the division’s Twitter account—no experience necessary! Many thanks to Julianne Rowland for her excellent work during this past year.
  • It is time to think about topics and Guest Speakers for next year’s conference. What did you like or miss at ATA58? Should we organize another discussion panel similar to the one this year? Please email your suggestions to divisionS_TD@atanet.org.

A record 44 members attended our networking dinner this year. Many thanks to Patrick Weill for organizing this popular event! If you would like to help with next year’s dinner in New Orleans, please email us at divisionS_TD@atanet.org. Restaurant suggestions are always welcome.

We have posted two new articles on our blog:

  • “Wait for Your Pitch—Growing Your Translation Business by Turning Down Work,” by Stephanie Delozier Strobel
  • “Session Report on the ATA Science and Technology Division’s Featured Session: How to Specialize and Expand Your Business into New Technical Markets,” by Patrick Weill

The minutes of the 2017 Annual General Meeting can be found in the Resources section of the website.
