Dagmar Gromann is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Translation Studies at Vienna University. As both linguist and computer scientist, she successfully bridges the gap between language, technology, and Artificial Intelligence. She is the co-founder of the new Master Program "Multilingual Technologies," whose aim is to future-proof the profession of language mediation. Among her most recent research topics are artificial intelligence and gender bias in language. Her presentation will cover both these topics and include both theory and interactive segments. 9th Annual GLD Members in Europe Workshop

Zwischen Theorie und Praxis in Leipzig: Connecting Scholars and Professionals to Discuss the Past, Present, and Future of Translation

Leipzig: February 2-4, 2024

Our 9th Annual GLD Members in Europe Workshop brings us to Leipzig. Participants can look forward to greeting old friends and meeting new colleagues while learning about the current state of the field of translation and the future of our profession!

We’re pleased to announce that this year's event features a first-ever cooperation with another organization: Leipzig University's Institute of Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT). In lieu of an invited keynote speaker, the program will include a host of sessions by members of both the university community and the GLD---from linguistics research and its practical implications to pricing for translators in the era of NMT and GenAI and the everyday realities of working as freelancers.

As always, there will be plenty of time for catching up and networking during coffee breaks and meals! We look forward to seeing you there.

Participants are invited to reserve a room at the Premier Inn Leipzig Oper. This hotel would not allow for a group reservation, but rooms are currently available with generous cancellation terms. Prices will rise as the workshop gets closer, so reserve now!
