Celebrate Language and Culture: Join Us for an Educational Event Exploring Pennsylvania Dutch

Language lovers, cultural enthusiasts, educators, and community members are “wilkum” to this special event celebrating and exploring the unique heritage of Pennsylvania Dutch, a vibrant and historically rich language spoken in parts of the United States for over 300 years.

“Pennsylvania Dutch Day” will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Southern Market Lancaster, offering an engaging and inclusive experience for attendees of all linguistic backgrounds. Whether you’re a language services provider, a cultural explorer, or part of a multilingual family, this event offers a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate.

The event will feature:

  • Keynote address by a renowned professor of Pennsylvania Dutch
  • Cultural context presented by a professor of history and Anabaptist studies
  • Panel discussion with local PA Dutch interpreters
  • Language lesson with useful vocabulary

“Pennsylvania Dutch is more than just a language — it’s a living testament to migration, resilience, and cultural blending,” says Karen Leube, event coordinator. “This event is a celebration of diversity and understanding, where everyone is welcome to explore how languages shape identity and community.”
