Winter 2012 edition of GLD Newsletter now online!

The Winter2012 edition of interaktiv is now available here on the GLD website. Click here to download a copy.

Our faithful leader, Ruth Gentes Krawczyk, starts off this issue of interaktiv with an administrative word, which is followed by the Minutes of the GLD Annual Meeting. Sarah Koby, a masters student at Kent State University who sported the bright pink “first time attendee” ribbon in Boston, tells us why she’d “Rather Be a Translator.” Seasoned conference-attendee and GLD Dictionary Review Coordinator, Michael Engley, is this issue’s “Translator in Profile” – a Florida-based finance and accounting translator who plans to roar into San Diego next year on his Harley Davidson. And as a special treat, interaktiv is pleased to bring you two excerpts of the well-received bilingual reading presented in Boston by novelist and GLD Distinguished Speaker Jan-Philipp Sendker and literary translator Linda Marianiello. Gerhard Preisser, the GLD list moderator, shows us just what’s so special about the GLD list with two recent discussion threads – another interaktiv first.  And long-time GLDer Larry Schofer reviews this year’s “Erlangen trip.” Of course our newsletter would not be complete without a look at the 2012 calendar.

Acknowledgements

To our newsletter layout designer, Katrin Rippel, thank you for putting together another attractive issue in record time! Kim Scherer, my new co-editor, once again welcome aboard and thanks for making sure all the i’s were crossed and t’s were dotted ;-). And for those we both missed, Janice Becker and Ute Kegel came to the rescue when they proofed the final pdfs. Thanks so much! Ute is also a new addition to the team: thanks for the great support and lightning-fast turnaround!  Thanks also go out to Susan Starling for compiling the calendar of events — finding a whole host of conferences I’d never heard of. And last but certainly not least, Michael Engley for coordinating the dictionary review. He has several reviews in the pipeline so stay tuned to the website and future issues for those.

Ruth and Eva, thank you for your continued guidance and support!

A very special thanks to our contributing authors – Ruth Gentes Krawczyk, Sarah Koby, Michael Engley, Jan-Philipp Sendker, Linda Marianiello, Larry Schofer and Andrew Catford.

Happy reading!

Beste Grüße

Matt Baird
